Say Hello to Windows Phone 7 Series

It is time to say farewell to the Windows Mobile brand as Microsoft has unveiled their latest phone operating system - the Windows Phone 7 Series - earlier this week at Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona. As you can see from the screenshot above, the new OS looks nothing like its predecessor, hence the new name.

Gone are the mundane tiles on Windows Mobile 6.x desktop and it has been replaced by funky looking GUI called “Metro” which has striking resemblances to the interface used on Zune HD. The new OS is also pretty heavy on social networking in which users can actually check out real time updates from their Facebook friends directly on the OS’s Start screen. Not enough with that, Microsoft also equipped the new OS with Xbox LIVE games and Zune media services for gamers and also, music lovers out there to enjoy directly on their device.

It is still quite early to say how good the OS is going to be in reality but fear not, quite a number of manufacturers such as Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC Corp., HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm Inc. already stated their commitment to build Windows Phone 7 Series hardware. Unfortunately, it is going to take a while before you can experience the new OS yourself as the first batch of Windows Phone 7 Series devices will only be out towards the end of this year.

Check out more of the Windows Phone 7 Series hotness, right after the break or at its official website (http://www.windowsphone7series.com/).
