PostHeaderIcon Nokia Sues Apple, Claims iPhone Getting Free Ride on Their Patents

Nokia today announced that they have filed a complaint against Apple over unauthorized use of several patents belonging to the company. These patents are said to involve numerous industry standards, namely GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN which pretty much told you which Apple product that is involved in this case.

In the official media release, Nokia claimed that Apple has refused to come into an agreement to license these patents from them, unlike many other companies out there who has no problem licensing technologies from Nokia. However, Nokia didn’t mention any technical details about these patents except that “they are fundamental …cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption…infringed by all iPhone models shipped since it was introduced in 2007.

This lawsuit is a pretty serious allegation against Apple but with the absence of technical and legal details behind the said patents, we prefer to wait till the case develop itself further. After all, there are always two sides to every story.
