PostHeaderIcon Facebook Helps Rage Against The Machine Top UK Chart

Over the past four Christmas, UK music charts has been conquered by winners from a singing reality show called The X Factor. Not this year though, as the show’s 2009 winner - Joe McElderry - has to settle for second place next to the legendary rock group, Rage Against The Machine (RATM). All thanks to an Internet campaign led by Jon and Tracey Morter.

Earlier this month, the couple decided to open a group on Facebook in order to convey their frustration over The X Factor’s dominance on UK Christmas chart and chose to push RATM’s “Killing In The Name” to be the top song on the chart. In just matter of days, they have managed to gather support not only from music fans across the globe but also musicians such as RATM themselves, Sir Paul McCartney (The Beatles), Muse, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), The Prodigy and many more.

According to the chart’s statistics that was released yesterday, the 17-years old song managed to overlap McElderry’s debut single - a cover of Miley Cyrus’ The Climb – by 50,000 units. Who would have thought that in just slightly over two weeks, the campaign managed to reach their objective successfully? We believe that it is safe to say that many are already tired of manufactured pop music from reality music show. The industry has to take note of this then. *grin*

By the way, RATM has also mentioned in an interview that the band will donate royalties from the single’s sales to the same charity that Jon and Tracey's campaign are associated with. Kudos to them!
