Symantec Presents The New Backup Exec 2010
As the amount of data storage rises significantly over the years, many enterprises have found themselves struggling to manage and protect those precious data. Since the complexity of storage also grows in tandem with its size, so does the cost to maintain them especially in terms of time and money.
This is where Symantec Backup Exec 2010 comes into the pictures. According to Symantec (http://www.symantec.com), the company’s latest backup and recovery solution is able to help organizations - especially mid-sized businesses – to save more time and money in their continues struggle to manage their ever growing storage.
How do the software achieve such savings? Find out more after the jump.
The answer lays in Symantec’s deduplication everywhere strategy that the company used to develop the Backup Exec 2010. For those who are not familiar with deduplication, it is basically a process of eliminating redundant data, usually to streamline storage utilization.
“Deduplication and archiving have primarily been enterprise-class technologies, but Backup Exec 2010 brings them to the masses to solve difficult IT challenges in an extremely simple and easy to use solution.” - Andre Xavier, regional product manager, information management group for Symantec Asia Pacific and Japan.
So, what Backup Exec 2010 offers is integrated deduplication technology across multiple levels - whether local server, media server or through third-party deduplication appliances that is compatible with the Symantec OpenStorage protocol. It can even execute automated deduplication between remote data servers through Wide Area Network, which pretty much highlighted its versatility.
Deduplication is not the only thing that it does though. As the name implies, it is also very powerful backup software, thanks to Symantec Enterprise Vault archiving technology. Through this technology, it offers multiple options for administrators to better manage their backup routine.
Last but not least, the Symantec Backup Exec 2010 also works in virtual machines as it is the company’s first ever solution that offers granular recovery of Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Active Directory in VMware and Hyper-V environments from a single pass backup, together with new support for Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, Hyper-V R2, Exchange 2010, Windows 7 and VMware vSphere 4.0.
The Symantec Backup Exec 2010 is already available throughout the world with a suggested price of RM 4,100 for a media server license and Basic Maintenance. There are also two new Backup Exec 2010 Suites that include deduplication and archiving options which have a suggested price of RM 9,500 – RM 13,600 with Basic Maintenance.
