The answer lays in Symantec’s deduplication everywhere strategy that the company used to develop the Backup Exec 2010. For those who are not familiar with deduplication, it is basically a process of eliminating redundant data, usually to streamline storage utilization.

So, what Backup Exec 2010 offers is integrated deduplication technology across multiple levels - whether local server, media server or through third-party deduplication appliances that is compatible with the Symantec OpenStorage protocol. It can even execute automated deduplication between remote data servers through Wide Area Network, which pretty much highlighted its versatility.
Deduplication is not the only thing that it does though. As the name implies, it is also very powerful backup software, thanks to Symantec Enterprise Vault archiving technology. Through this technology, it offers multiple options for administrators to better manage their backup routine.
Last but not least, the Symantec Backup Exec 2010 also works in virtual machines as it is the company’s first ever solution that offers granular recovery of Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Active Directory in VMware and Hyper-V environments from a single pass backup, together with new support for Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, Hyper-V R2, Exchange 2010, Windows 7 and VMware vSphere 4.0.
The Symantec Backup Exec 2010 is already available throughout the world with a suggested price of RM 4,100 for a media server license and Basic Maintenance. There are also two new Backup Exec 2010 Suites that include deduplication and archiving options which have a suggested price of RM 9,500 – RM 13,600 with Basic Maintenance.
