PostHeaderIcon Using Your Skin as a Touchscreen Input Device

If you think that using the muscles in your arm to control things such as switching songs between your iPod or playing Guitar Hero without actually having the instrument is fun, how about using your skin as a touch screen surface? The researchers at Mellon University and Microsoft’s Redmond research lab have recently developed a working prototype of a system called Skinput that allows you to use your skin as a touchscreen input device. Equipped with a projector on the armband, Skinput can project images onto your skin and when you tap on a selection, the acoustic detector will analyze the ultralow-frequency sound to determine which region of the display has been selected. While it may seem silly to start tapping on your skin in public, I’m looking forward to seeing what such technology could result in.

Watch the video after the jump to see the working prototype in action; yes it works, albeit rather slow.
