Was DiGi's iPhone plan leaked intentionally?
While the whole net has been abuzz with the 'leaked' pictures of DiGi's soon to be launched iPhone plans, we've been chirped (not via twitter!) that its all a carefully planned marketing ploy to hype up the launch.
Leveraging on social media is one thing, manipulating it is another. While we cannot genuinely say that the leak was intentional, there are just too many coincidences that makes it somewhat unbelievable. The first blog which leaked the images has never posted anything remotely related to telcos, while the second blog which was widely reported to be where the leak originated from is brand spanking new. Neither blogs made any attempt to claim credits for the leaked images - which is something every blogger dreams of - linkback traffic. Yes it might be ingenious, zero cost advertising across social networks, but is it right?
Maxis had a similar leak last year which went viral, and they made a considerable effort to block it. DiGi's response on twitter to the 'leak' sounded more like a mockery then an actual response to having confidential information spreading across the internet. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but we do not appreciate being made to propogate delibrately engineered news to the masses.
