PostHeaderIcon Is Cloud The Future?

There are people out there who are for cloud computing and there are those who aren’t, but whatever way you look at it, at the end of the day, the choice is still yours and the most important thing you have to consider is security. During a Kaspersky round table discussion about “Cloud Computing and In-the-cloud Security” with many executives from various industries, it seems like in spite of security issues and worst still, connectivity issues, most of them seem to think that cloud computing IS the way to go.

More after the break.

While it doesn’t seem very reliable at the moment to entirely over to a cloud, especially for confidential and highly secure data in banks, the discussion raised some rather interesting benefits of cloud computing experienced by real users themselves. A remarkable topic raised during the discussion was how a telco in the Philippines uses Cloud Computing to deliver internet to homes without the need of expensive hardware – all users need will be a television, and a wireless mouse and keyboard, and the telco will provide contents directly to their TV. As for Kaspersky, it is Cloud Computing that allows them to provide instant updates to malware signatures and thus providing better security for users.

Although almost all of us internet users are utilizing cloud now, Gmail users for example, it seems like Malaysians are not quite ready to make the switch. Like a speaker said during the discussion, Cloud Computing is the direction we’re heading at and whether you like it or not, in time, we will have to follow. But if you’re still worried, you can always try migrating the less important things over first.
