It seems like soft toys today are not something that only appeals to
little children, they can also have therapeutic effects on the elderly.
Recently, Fujitsu developed a teddy bear that is not only aimed to keep
children entertained, but also to soften the elderly by making them feel
serenade with its ability to change its posture and adapt to the way
it’s being held. Designed with cameras as its eyes and nose, and sensors
implanted on its head and body, the bear will be able to detect the
presence of humans and respond accordingly using its library of 320
postures. The bear can even doze off, snore, laugh and cry unexpectedly,
pretty freaky if you ask me, but there’s already a precedent in Japan
being used in hundreds of hospitals and are proven to help reduce the
risk of depression of withdrawal. The bear is not available yet though,
it’s still a prototype, but it will be something to look forward to – it
is even said that the bear can detect its ambient and if the
temperature is too low, it can turn into a heater.
