Hate or love 3D, but it’s definitely the next big thing - ok it sort of
already is, even the upcoming
FIFA World Cup will be available in 3D in some
countries – but recently, Sharp just announced the industry’s first ever
720p-recording camera module for mobile devices. The miniature 3D
camera that are aimed to be used on compact digital cameras and even
mobile phones will be available for sampling in July before hitting mass
production by the end of the year. Not much has been said about the 3D
camera as of now, except that it uses 2 cameras to take images
simultaneously and will require additional circuitry to process the
images to deliver the correct 3D effects. Let’s hope it won’t be too
pricey when it becomes available to the mass market, I’m definitely
looking forward to testing one, and it’ll be even more interesting when
used with the glasses-free 3D display that Sharp is working on.
