With smartphones
getting cheaper, more affordable and more popular among users regardless whether
they’re tech-savvy or not, it’s only a matter of time before everyone start
using their personal mobile devices - including slates like RIM Playbook and
Apple iPad - to do everything from their personal life to accessing private and
confidential information in the companies they work for. Security for these
devices is getting increasingly important and seeing that, Symantec has just
announced a major update to its mobile security and management strategy –
provide mobile solutions for consumers, enterprises and even communication service
provider to secure and manage any
mobile device anytime, anywhere. Previously, Symantec provide support for only Windows
Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry devices but with the growth of Apple’s iPad and
iPhone, Symantec’s can now support iOS and even Google Android operating
system.
“As the mobile market grows, Symantec’s mission is to secure people and information through identity, protection and context, and our broad approach to mobile security and management is a key extension of protection for all of our customers. By providing mobile security and management for smart devices on various platforms, we’re making it easier for enterprises to allow their employees to use their device of choice without putting corporate data at risk.” – Raymon Goh, Regional Technical Director, Systems Engineering and Customer Advisory Services for Asia South Region, Symantec.
Enterprise
Mobile Security and Management
While some
companies offer laptops and phones for their employees, there are bound to be a
few who would like to use their own personal devices such as an iPad as opposed
to a big and bulky laptop, but many enterprises lack the ability to support and
extend access to so many different devices. With Symantec’s new offering of
enterprise mobile solutions, users are free to choose the devices of their
choice be it Apple iOS, Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile, RIM and soon even
Windows Phone 7. These solutions allow administrators to centrally define and
distribute security policies to devices over-the-air. Symantec’s solutions for
enterprise mobile security and management include:
- Device Management: Symantec Mobile Management
- Device Security: Symantec Endpoint Protection Mobile Edition, Symantec Network Access Control Mobile Edition
- Device Encryption: PGP Mobile, PGP Support Package for BlackBerry
- Strong Authentication: VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Access for Mobile, VeriSign Device Certificate Services
Consumer
Mobile Security
When your
phone is stolen, there’ll be no way to retrieve it back but the least you can
do is lock it and give it a remote wipe so the thief cannot access your private
information such as photos, emails, and documents. Symantec’s consumer mobile
security, the Norton Everywhere allows you to do just that along with backup. Existing
Norton Everywhere include Norton Mobile Seciruty for Android and Norton DNS which
is available for any device from the iPad to game consoles and Wi-Fi routers.
Communications
Service Providers Mobile Security
Having
scams, malwares and such on the network could be hogging the bandwidth and will
thus use up more operation costs. Symantec will soon be offering new solutions
to allow network providers have better security, better manage policy
enforcement and user preference, and increase profitability by boosting
customer satisfaction.
“The increased competitiveness of the communications industry has resulted in increased pressure on providers to deliver exceptional customer experience to safeguard their brand and customer base. The challenge for service providers is to protect customer information while allowing for the flexible creation of desired controls that enhance the value of the mobile experiences. We want to give communication service providers confidence that they are securing their customers’ information and implementing costomer preference. Symantec Next Generation Network Protection provides that confidence.” – Raymon Goh, Regional Technical Director, Systems Engineering and Customer Advisory Services for Asia South Region, Symantec.
