PostHeaderIcon A Showdown: Razer Kabuto vs. CM Storm CS-S Battle Pad

A showdown is usually defined as a head to head contest and that is exactly what we are doing with two of the latest mobile gaming mousepads on the market. At one side is the Kabuto, created by the famed and long established gaming peripherals manufacturer, Razer (http://www.razerzone.com). On another side of the ring is the CS-S Battle Pad from the new kid of the block, CM Storm (http://www.cmstorm.com).

Mobile gaming mousepads are tiny by definition but let’s not judge them by size – these mousepads meant serious business. Step right in to see how they fare against each other.

THE SUBJECTS AT A GLANCE

THE ANALYSIS

Despite being relatively new to the gaming peripherals market, the CM Storm CS-S Battle Pad built quality is as high as Razer Kabuto. Both of them also shares the same amount of surface area at 54600 mm2; good enough for many gamers and general users out there.

However, this is where the similarity ends. Despite having equal surface area, Razer Kabuto has wider surface compared to CM Storm CS-S Battle Pad. This might be a rather subjective to each user but to our observation, many gamers loves more vertical space on their mouse pads, so Kabuto might be more favourable for users in general.

Another noticeable difference between the two mousepads is their surface condition. In our opinion, the CS-S Battle Pad surface feels rougher and has better glide than the Kabuto but it is a little bit noisy if you move your mouse around a lot. This doesn’t mean that the Kabuto is at disadvantage here as mousepads with higher friction rate is usually meant for gamers that prefer more mouse control rather than speed.

Last but not least, the price. The CM Storm is the clear winner here, since the Battle Pad cost almost half of what Razer asks for its Kabuto. That being said, Razer also claims that Kabuto could function as a screen cleaner and protector. For us, this is more a novelty features but at least, it does work as Razer intended. However, as far as the screen protector function concerns, it is very much depending on how big or small your laptop is.

CONCLUSION

Interestingly, both mousepads has quite a number of similarities but their differences does not make any one of them more superior than the other. Instead, these differences becomes the traits that users have to look out for in order to suit their gaming style.

All in all, there is no clear winner in this showdown. If you are aiming for better mouse glide speed, the CM Storm CS-S Battle Pad could be the one for you; while for those who wants more control on their hand, the Razer Kabuto looks pretty good for the job. Of course, if budget is a priority, then the answer is already pretty obvious.
