PostHeaderIcon Review: ZOWIE GEAR G-TF Gaming Mouse Pad

Launched in March 2009, ZOWIE GEAR (http://www.zowiegear.com) is a rather new player in the global gaming peripherals market. Don’t underestimate them though. Within just few months after their product launch, the California-based company has attracted two of the best Counter-Strike players that have ever grace the competitive gaming scene - Abdisamad “SpawN” Mohamed and Emil “HeatoN” Christensen - to become their ambassadors.
While there might be other factors involved (just saying), but it goes to show that ZOWIE GEAR are serious in making proper performance peripherals for budding gamers out there. What we have here is one of the by product from the company’s collaboration with their ambassadors - the ZOWIE Gear G-TF Mouse Pad.
The G-TF Mouse Pad is said to be specifically designed to fulfil serious requirements put by SpawN that came from years of top-level competitive gaming experience. We don’t have the skills that can match the legendary CS player but we do, however, know couple of things about quality gaming surfaces.
So, tune in further to see how is the mouse pad performs on our hand.

ANALYSIS
Speed is the name of the game when it comes to ZOWIE GEAR G-TF Gaming Mouse Pad. In fact, the mouse pad glide speed is almost as fast as an average hard mat. Of course, the actual speed depends on the condition and type of your mouse feet but still, the G-TF is the fastest cloth mouse pad that we ever tested.
Don’t get us wrong though, they are still not that fast till the extent that you are not able to control your mouse. In terms of tracking, we didn’t found any abnormalities with the surface either with optical or laser mouse. Universal mouse sensor compatibility has always been one of the cloth mat’s stronger points, so there is nothing extra ordinary about that. However, we feel that the surface doesn’t really work well with Apple Magic Mouse, most probably due to its foot that are located right in the middle of the mouse since its movement is not as smooth as it supposed to be.
Another interesting feature on the mouse pad is its rolled edges. While it might be a small thing, it is a very thoughtful design as it eliminates sharp edges from hurting our wrists which some gaming surfaces does with their sharp edges. The surface is also pretty stable during intense moment during games, thanks to its 4mm thickness and non-slip rubber base.
As a cloth mat, the G-TF also has no issues when it comes to transporting it in between locations. All you got to do is just roll it up and put it inside your bag, as long as your bag can fits it. However, due to its build and thickness, it might take some time for it to be completely flat once a user unrolls it for usage.
CONCLUSION
The ZOWIE GEAR GT-F Gaming Mouse Pad really delivers it promise: a cloth surface with the speed of a plastic mat. Throughout the mat, it is very clear that the folks at ZOWIE GEAR really paid attention to details; from the G-TF build material up to those edges around the pad.
At RM 119 RM 109 (newly updated price) per pop, it is certainly one of the most expensive cloth surfaces around but it is still cheaper than many of premium and large sized plastic gaming mouse pads out there. Whether the price is right, that is up for you (and your wallet) to decide but the bottom line is that ZOWIE GEAR has managed to delivers all the goods that they promised.
Pros: Very fast cloth surface, Non-slip rubber bottom and thickness made it very stable and also gives it a sense of durability, Cheaper than premium hard surface.
Cons: Takes time to be totally flat, Premium price for a cloth mouse pad.

The ZOWIE GEAR G-TF Gaming Mouse Pad is available online through Team LZ’s web store or their official sales thread at Lowyat.NET Forums. Alternatively, you can also check out the G-TF and other ZOWIE GEAR products on display at QUAS Cyber Café in Petaling Jaya.
