Call it a laptop, a notebook, or whatever the heck you want to, because none of those names change the fact that laptops are gradually disappearing from laps around the world and finding their way onto desk tops. No, it isn’t due a top secret government conspiracy or anything of the sort, but rather due to the paradox that is technology.

As the demand for more powerful laptops steadily increase, so does the demand for them to come in smaller, thinner packages. This is all good for the consumer because laptop vendors are actually taking note of your needs, but due to the limitations that come with technology, cramming in a higher powered processer into a smaller package usually means an increase in heat – the key factor that’s keeping laptops off laps.

Recognizing this trend, peripheral connoisseurs Logitech have devises a simple solution that’ll have you working off your lap in full TV style (nestled comfortably on your sofa with your machine on your lap).

Called the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700, the product simply does what its namesake states it does, and a little more. Built from heat durable plastics and padded on the bottom with heat resistant foam, the Lapdesk N700 connects to your laptop via a single USB cable that powers a built-in silent running fan and a pair of speakers.

The official press release says that the built-in 2-inch speakers will readily provide you “theatre quality audio”, but we’re taking that with a huge pinch of salt. What we’re pretty sure it will do however is ensure that your crotch isn’t scalded by hot plastic (PC) / aluminium (Mac), and that your machine will get sufficient ventilation in the process.
