It turns out that they are collaborating with Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN - http://www.hasil.gov.my) in order to educate members of the public about the importance of good online habits. It is not an unusual move, since more and more taxpayers are using LHDN online filing and payment system to complete their annual responsibilities, there could be careless tax payers out there that would fall on the hands of nasty cyber criminals.
Jump in to find out how you can protect yourself during this bustling tax season.

You see, around 1.6 million Malaysian taxpayers have used LHDN’s e-filing system last year and more are expected to do so this year.  So, just imagine how many potential victims are there! These simple to follow advices should be able to strengthen good online habits:
- Avoid clicking on suspicious links in e-mail or instant messages as these may be links to fake or phishing web sites. Rest your mouse pointer on the links which will show the real web address. Do not click if it does not look like a proper address.
- Do not use the links in an email to get to a website. Symantec security experts suggest typing web addresses directly into the browser rather than clicking on links from email or instant messaging.
- Never reply to requests for personal information in SMS and email messages that ask for personal or financial information or passwords.
- When in doubt, contact LHDN directly for verification (Hotline: 1300-88-3010, Email: aduan@hasil.gov.my ).

- Choose hard-to-guess passwords for e-filing, change them regularly and keep them safe.

- Log-out every time you have finished, and have all your documents ready before starting so you do not leave the e-filing webpage open for too long.

- Always ensure your computer is current with the latest patches and software fixes and ensure your computer is protected with a comprehensive security suite.

- Ensure important information is backed up regularly and copies are stored in a media separate from your computer.
- Educate yourself and stay informed on the latest security trends in the market.
- Don’t wait till the last minute; file your taxes online as early as possible.

While these advices might not be new for many of us but it is good to be reminded once in a while, right? To protect their users, LHDN has already equipped their online system with top-notch security infrastructure but in the end, self-protection is still the best way to protect yourself against the threat of cybercrimes.
