PostHeaderIcon Intel Reader to Help those who are Visually Impaired or Dyslexic

It’s always nice to know that technology can help those who are less fortunate, especially when they are developed by those who have disability because then they can truly understand the things needed. Showcased at the recent CES, a dyslexic Stanford graduate recently developed an Intel Reader, a device powered by Intel Atom that can translate text to speech, giving those who are visually impaired or those who suffer from dyslexia a chance to “read”. The reader not only reads out text from books and such, it can also translate text from images taken with the built-in high resolution camera ranging from restaurant menus to academic journals. For those with slight visual problems, the device is capable of magnifying the scanned text so it can be read. Although the reader is priced at a whooping $1500 (about RM5250), it seems like little to pay to help change the lives of those who are less fortunate.
