If there’s one thing that does not need an introduction to, it would be the terrifying number of threats that awaits you whenever you connect to the Internet. It’s funny how the probability of dying from a snake bite is one in a hundred thousand and we’re all terrified of snakes, but the probably of having your data stolen from the Internet is one in every five, and yet there’re people who still don’t care and choose to buy free “security” programs off the Internet. With the launch of the Norton 360 Version 4.0, Norton recently had a cyber-security briefing to talk about the dangers of the internet and how to prevent threats from happening, especially when you’re doing your internet banking services.

If you’ve used Norton Internet Security 2010 and above before, then I’m sure you’re aware of their Reputation technology that they’ve been using since then. The technology focuses on discovering today’s toughest threats head-on, giving Norton 360 a top score in third-party testing conducted by UK-based Dennis Labs. On top of all the services provided to protect your PCs, the Norton 360 Version 4.0 can also be used for devices such as Android, iPhone and iPad to access stored data online and share documents across different devices.
Unfortunately though, security software can only do that much, if a person is unaware of the threats they are exposed to, there are no ways for these software to help. Believe it or not, according to Maybank, 72% of people who had their information stolen are those that knowingly give away their personal information such as pin number and password. I don’t know about you, but to me, 72% is an alarming large percentage of people who are so gullible thanks to lack of awareness and greed. I’ve been noticing quite a large number of advertisements on the internet in Bahasa Malaysia that promises you a very high salary with minimal effort; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. During the briefing, En. Adil Abdul Wahid, Head of MyCERT & Cyber999 Help Centre mentioned that the number of scams in Malaysia is on the rise, particularly those in Malay. Norton 360 Version 4.0 is available for purchase in Malaysia through retailers and the Symantec online store. It is available for RM229 for the standard edition for a 3 pc license and RM119 for one PC licence, including 2GB of online storage space. The premium edition which comes with 25GB of online storage is available for RM279.
