Here’s the time you should be proud to be a Malaysian, at the recent MIPTV 2010 in Cannes, France, a Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) announced the signing of two agreements. The first agreement was signed between Ed-Online Technologies, a MSC Malaysian Status Company, and a South Korean company, NHC Media, for the co-production of a 2D animated children’s television series named Eori.
The movie features a boy, Eori, who saves a fairy and in return, the fairy brings Eori to a place full of story books. For every book he reads, the fairy will transport him into the story world whereby he will be playing the role of a character in the story. The stories are based on Malaysian and Korean folk tales as well as internationally known fairy tales. But here’s the twist, Eori will be driving the stories in his own ways using his imagination.

“The increase in strategic alliances with foreign government bodies will allow more co-production and collaborative programmes to take place. In addition, the success of Malaysian companies at MIPTV 2010 is something we are very proud of. In conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and South Korea, we believe the partnership between MSC Malaysia and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), will indeed provide a conducive platform and co-production grants to position Malaysia as a provider of content/IP for the world, by enabling the right environment for animation, visual effects, games and new media development.” -- Adam Ham, Entertainment and Media Specialist, MDeC.
Story continues after the jump.

You should also be proud too to know that the second agreement was signed between another MSC Malaysia Status Company, Elite Animations Sdn. Bhd. and an American company, Everest International Distribution, for an international license and distribution rights in America, Europe, Africa and Middle East worth approximately USD$3million. This means that Everest will be representing several Malaysian titles including “Wonderful World of Science”, “Land of the Native Jahri”, “Empayar Melaka” and “Ramadan Mat Jo”.

“We’re very excited by the collaboration plans with Everest Production. They are a large media group with 11 channels in the US, Europe, and Turkey. Having them as partners can take our titles to greater heights by reaching out to more audiences worldwide. In fact, plans are already being discussed for joint-production projects in documentaries, dramas and animation series.” -- Mohamed Tiar Sharif, MD-CEO of Q-plex Communication Sdn Bhd and Elite Animation Sdn Bhd.
Last but not least, during the event, Latin Media Corporation (LMC) and its Malaysian business partner, Worldwide Rights Corporation (WRC) announced that their co-produced telenovela drama series, Bola Cinta, will air in Malaysian on RTM starting in the middle of June this year in conjunction with the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The teen drama series have been so successful that a second season has already been planned, with the shooting scheduled to begin later this year.
