HP Launches The DesignJet L25500 Large Format Printer

When you think printers, you can imagine those boring
off-white monsters that churn out your reports at lightning speed in the
office
or a workhorse shared by your housemates to do the odd printout during
college.
Occasionally you may even come across dedicated photo printers, printing
odd
sizes, taking 6 cartridges and stunning the world with the quality of
their
prints. The large format printer however is a beast all on its own,
known to be
able to print on different materials and at mammoth sizes, and HP’s new
offering brings more to the table with the new DesignJet L25500
At the newly opened club Milk, we got to see not only the
new HP DesignJet L25500 large format printer being unveiled, but also
how it
could be used in a real-world scenario. Safe to say, the result was very
impressive, both aesthetically and logistically.
More after the jump

The DesignJet L25500 employs HPs Latex Ink technology and
with compatible materials produces durable, odourless (I know because I
actually put nose to print and took a deep breath) prints with such
vivid
colour and detail they could be used on a variety of levels. Various
examples
were shown of what could be done, such as printing on flags, banners,
vehicle
wraps, light boxes and perhaps the most impressive was using it to
remodel and
redesign a club, yes the same club we were standing in was entirely
decorated
using the L25500.

I was extremely impressed with the before and after shots of
the building (Located opposite New Straits Times in Bangsar for the
curious) seeing
the location transform from a drab exterior to a modern façade.
Everything from
the door screens, table tops to the console wraps were printed using the
L25500, and apparently it was easy to execute and even easier to
maintain. While
the technology for Latex Ink and Vinyl Printing is not a new one, I find
that
the execution and application in this instance is perhaps one that will
be more
commonplace in the future.

The HP DesignJet L25500 is available starting from RM118,000
for the 42-inch model and RM138,000 for the 60-inch model. At that price
range,
I can’t see this printer being a feature in the Lowyat.Net offices, but
for
existing Print Service Providers, it looks to be a good investment.

Printing Technology or the DesignJet
